Went to the NH dealership today expecting to make my decision between the TC29D or TC33D. Out of the blue there is a 180 hour, 1998, 1630 available for about $3500.00 less than the new TC29D. The dealer told me it was equal to the TC29D, but my findings conclude that it is rated at 27HP, 2HP less than the TC29D. What is the 1630? Was it one of the prototypes for the TC "Boomer" series? Did it have any problems? Should I be concerned about 2HP?

You didnt mnetion what type of use you are going to use this tractor. For small usage the used tractor might be the buy. The 1630 was deluxe tractor as far as featuresas boomers go. If you plan on lots of hours doing lots of differnt chores the new tractor might be the way to go. You get warrenty on a new one. Hope which ever youchose you have good luck ....

I wouldn't worry about 2 h.p. But know that the TC25 and TC29 have the same engine, just that the TC29's is rigged up to work harder andtherefore put out more horsepower. I've been looking at the Boomer'sand think one should either choose the TC25 or TC33 because the engines are not working as hard to give the rated horsepower. I would thinkthe 1630 is comparable to the TC29. For me, I always wonder what kindof hours were put on a used machine, but then I'm stil using a 1946Ferguson 40 and only dreaming of the options on a new tractor. ....

For a $3,500 difference, I would stick with either the TC29 or TC33. I originally boughta 1725, and NH replaced that tractor with a TC29, because I had so much trouble with it. There were problems with the engines on the previous models, and I ran intothose problems before I even had 50 hours on the tractor. I've heard from other people who have had similar problems. The TC models have a redesignedengine, which I can testify is much more reliable!! I have over 200 hard hourson my TC29 now, mostly loader work, and now it's turning the hay tedder, and I'mgoing to try it with the baler next weekend. Never a service call in all those hours, compared to service calls once a week with the 1725. ....

I recently bought the TC33D. I had looked at the older boomer tractors (the 1630 is one of them)but I like the features on the new boomers. I agree that the TC25D and TC29D have the same engine...one's just tweeked for hp. I don't have many hours on myTC33D yet, but I love the power, and the features. If it performs as folks havetold me it will, I will be very happy with it.Good luck with your decision, but I like the other comment above about the warrenty.Something about piece of mind! ....
